But the list was far too long; Insulin, the Telephone, Cardiac Pacemaker, the Snowmobile, Lacrosse, Basketball, the Prosthetic Hand. How could we possibly decide which to include in our top list? Instead we came up with the 7 of the lesser known inventions the world can thank Canada for.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Peanut Butter<\/strong> <\/span>\u2013 in 1884 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marcellus_Gilmore_Edson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marcellus Gilmore Edson<\/a> created this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mashed.com\/222107\/the-inventor-of-peanut-butter-isnt-who-you-think\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nutty treat<\/a> in Quebec as a food option for people who couldn\u2019t chew. George Washington Carver, who is often credited, with this invention was responsible for making it popular in the U.S.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5639\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5639\" class=\"wp-image-5639\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geranium.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/1-PEANUT-BUTTER-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.geranium.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/1-PEANUT-BUTTER-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.geranium.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/1-PEANUT-BUTTER-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.geranium.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/1-PEANUT-BUTTER-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.geranium.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/1-PEANUT-BUTTER-400x267.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5639\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">We are nuts about this Canadian invention &#8211; Peanut Butter!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Paint Roller<\/strong><\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp;\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/vantagepoints.ca\/stories\/inventor-pierson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Norman Breakey<\/a> of Toronto was determined to find a better way to paint an entire building. He slid a cylinder of absorbent material onto a handle and dipped it in paint. Interest in the paint roller increased during a WWII paint brush shortage but Breakey never had the cash to patent the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KOPRp8kzP-A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paint roller<\/a> and died without receiving a nickel for his idea.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5638\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5638\" class=\"wp-image-5638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geranium.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2-PAINT-ROLLER-THEN-AND-NOW-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.geranium.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2-PAINT-ROLLER-THEN-AND-NOW-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.geranium.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2-PAINT-ROLLER-THEN-AND-NOW-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.geranium.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/2-PAINT-ROLLER-THEN-AND-NOW-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-5638\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">1940&#8217;s Paint Roller and modern Roller<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Electric Oven<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Thomas Aheard of Ottawa wanted an alternative to wood or gas, he turned to electricity to cook a meal. Made of bricks, the first electric oven was six feet high by six feet wide. Photo <a href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/2\/28\/Marilyn_demonstrating_electric_stove%2C_1949_%284014105889%29.jpg\/640px-Marilyn_demonstrating_electric_stove%2C_1949_%284014105889%29.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wikimedia<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Foghorn<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Walking around in fog helped Robert Foulis of Saint John, New Brunswick invent the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca\/en\/article\/robert-foulis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">steam powered foghorn<\/a> in 1859. It worked much like a tea kettle, and was a key navigational tool that saved thousands of lives for more than 100 years. Photo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadashistory.ca\/explore\/science-technology\/11-inventions-to-celebrate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadashistory.ca<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Egg Carton<\/strong><\/span> \u2013 Newspaper editor <a href=\"https:\/\/inventivekids.com\/joseph-coyle-invents-egg-carton-1911\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joseph Coyle<\/a> of Smithers, BC wanted to find a way to carry eggs without them breaking.
