A NEW HUB FOR MIDHURST COMMUNITY

The Midhurst Valley community marked an important milestone this past weekend with the official opening of Adam Elliott Park, a vibrant new green space at the centre of the growing neighbourhood.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on Saturday, Oct. 11, brought together homeowners, local dignitaries including ward councillor Anita Moore, and former Midhurst councillor Jack Hanna, as well as representatives of MPP Doug Downey and MPP Brian Saunderson, members of the Elliott family, and representatives from the Midhurst Valley Builder Group.

Together with an announcement delivered by town crier John Webster, the occasion was commemorated with an official ribbon cutting and park dedication ceremony celebrating community, connection and remembrance.

Park that brings the community together

Since welcoming its first residents in 2023, Midhurst Valley has become home to hundreds of families, each helping to shape a strong and connected neighbourhood.

The opening of Adam Elliott Park represents the next step in that growth — a shared space designed to bring people together and enhance everyday life for residents.

“The completion and official opening of the park is a milestone in the making of our Midhurst Valley community, and we’re delighted to be sharing this beautiful amenity with the residents of Midhurst,” said Cheryl Shindruk, executive vice-president, Geranium.

“The park was thoughtfully designed to serve as a central hub for the community — a place that encourages both active recreation and quiet reflection within nature,” she added. “Nearly eight acres in size, it offers a wide range of state-of-the-art recreational facilities, including tennis and pickleball courts, a multi-sport court, soccer pitch and a fully accessible playground.

“These amenities are complemented by native plantings and restoration initiatives that enhance the park’s natural character and support local biodiversity.”

Honouring the spirit of Adam Elliott

The park was named in honour of Adam Elliott, the late son of Scott and Lorie Elliott of The Sarjeant Group.

During the ceremony, Moore presented the Elliott family with a certificate also announcing the naming of one of Simcoe County’s community trails in Adam’s memory.

“The Adam Elliott Trail will connect the people and places within this community as we walk, cycle, and spend time in nature,” said Coun. Moore. “It will serve as both a pathway and a lasting reminder of Adam’s love for the outdoors.”

Adam is remembered for his kindness, warmth, and love of life — qualities that now live on through this park and trail, both designed to foster connection, energy, and community spirit.

In addition, local MPP representative Hale Mahon presented a certificate on behalf of the province of Ontario and Doug Downey, MPP for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte, to the Elliott family in recognition of the park’s naming.

Jason Holliday, representing Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey, presented certificates to both the Elliott family and the Midhurst Valley developer group.

“He is undoubtedly looking down at us with a big smile,” said Scott Elliott. “When you look at this — the quality of the park — it’s just so well done. It astonishes me how capable our group has been, and I’m so pleased it has turned out this well.”

Homeowners celebrate the community

Residents of Midhurst Valley also took part in the festivities, enjoying the park’s opening with a community barbecue and fall fun activities with the chance to connect with neighbours.

“It’s amazing to see our neighbourhood grow and come together for this park,” shared one local homeowner. “My family has already spent hours enjoying the playground and trails, and it’s wonderful to have a space where everyone feels part of the community.”
