The first thing you might think when asked this question is, “Where the heck is Stouffville?”

Just a ten-minute drive north of Markham and an easy GO Train ride to Union Station; Stouffville sits comfortably on the edge of the GTA. Within minutes of Highways 404 and 407, Whitchurch-Stouffville is a quick commute north or south and the perfect bedroom community for those seeking refuge from the gridlock of the larger urban centres that surround it.

“I work in downtown Toronto and my commute time is under an hour” explains Brandi, a new Stouffville resident, “…and here I can afford the luxury of a home that would cost twice as much in the city.”

What many are surprised to find when they discover Stouffville is that in addition to an abundance of small town charm, the area is a vibrant community setting alive with galleries, theatres, restaurants, recreation and more. Where everything that’s important to your life, and how you live, is just steps away.

Stouffville somehow has managed the impossible – to keep the small hometown feel, while still offering all the conveniences and amenities of city living.

“One of the things I really like is that I can actually walk from my house to restaurants and shops on Main Street,” says Matthew, a long-time Stouffville resident. “Stouffville is not a strip mall kind of town you don’t have to drive everywhere.”

Main Street is a thriving downtown with over 140 unique shops, restaurants and services including a local butcher and bakeries, farmer’s market, as well as 24 hour Metro and all the conveniences of larger cities.

Stouffville Town Council has been forward thinking in their approach to growth and improvement. Within the last eight years, the town has engaged in the construction the Stouffville Centre for Arts & Entertainment (19 on the Park,) Latcham Art Gallery and Hall, the Leisure & Fitness Centre, Public Library and Community Pools, all just two and a half blocks from Main Street.

This doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten their past. In 2014 Stouffville’s historic Main Street was chosen as one of only three communities in Canada to win the Benjamin Moore Main Street Matters contest. The revitalized look of Main Street is just another one of many reasons why residents choose to shop close to home.
