Will redecorating be one of your New Year’s resolutions?  Are you looking to reinvent your home’s personal style? Home decor trends are always evolving and with the anticipation of the New Year it’s time to visit some upcoming predictions in home trends. Here’s a list of the top 6 decorating trends for 2016.

Nature
Bringing the outdoors in will be one of the hottest trends for 2016. Incorporating greenery into your décor provides homes with a more eco-friendly vibe and acts as a calming presence. Adding elements of nature also includes accents of wood to add a more rustic feel to your decor. Whether it’s living plants or nature-inspired furniture, Mother Nature will be happy to be an accessory in your home.

Metallics
Adopting a metallic vibe has been an ongoing trend that will continue well into the New Year. Gold, silver and copper hues in your furniture pieces add a more contemporary feel and brightens up your space. This could also include integrating these metallic elements into accent pieces like kitchen cupboard knobs and drawer handles, or accent pieces in your room.

Connection
Technology is truly changing the way we live, as it allows us to stay connected to the rest of the world wherever we are. A trend for 2016 is to stay connected even in the home. As people become more reliant on their phones, it’s predicted that eventually all homes will become equipped with the ability to wirelessly/remotely adjust features like air conditioning from their mobile device. Until then, think about converting your current electrical outlets to built-in USB Ports in order to accommodate all of the technology in the family.

Layering Textures
Monochromatic and neutral spaces are making a comeback to accommodate a minimalistic and organic trend in interior design.  Acclaimed interior designer Jo-Ann Capelaci suggests using texture to create depth and liven up spaces. “Choose textures that feel good both visually and to the touch. Texture can be cozy and comfortable or rich and sophisticated whichever suits your personal style,” explains Jo-Ann. Mix textures like fur or brushed velvet to spark interest and create a focal point.

Statement Lighting
Acting as a centrepiece of a room, statement lighting brightens up your living space and adds a decorative element to your decor. Lighting has always been one of the most important elements of a home, now it’s time to give it centre stage!  Industrial influences are trending in 2016, with the popularity of Edison bulbs, mixed metals and vintage looks.
