In the spirit of a fresh start, we thought we’d focus this year’s resolutions on setting some goals for the home.
Here are our five home improvement resolutions for the new year.
1. Declutter and organize.
This is an obvious choice but may be a bit overwhelming if you’ve had a tendency to let things go. Creating a place for everything not only makes your home look cleaner but declutters your life. Thanks to PopSugar for this 30-Day Declutter Challenge, you can download the checklist for yourself here. We’ve also started up a Pinterest page dedicated to getting organized, with lots of inspiring ideas to get you going!
2. Add more houseplants
Bring life and colour to your home even in the dead of winter. Houseplants not only help purify air, but allows you to breathe easier and can sharpen your focus. Check out 24 of the easiest houseplants you can grow from Better Homes & Gardens.
3. Repaint at least one room in your house.
What better way to celebrate new beginnings than with a fresh coat of paint. Changing up your wall colour is an easy and inexpensive way to update the decor of your home. If you really want to make a statement, try an accent wall – check out our earlier blog to learn how.
4. Give cabinets a facelift with new hardware
Adding a little “bling” to your furniture with new hardware is an easy way to update its look. Whether traditional or whimsical, new hardware can add personality to a piece of furniture, often less than the cost of a can of paint (and a lot less work.)
5. Relax and enjoy your home
This is my favourite one of all – make your home feel like a mini retreat with the furniture that makes you feel comfortable, and bathroom accessories that turn your ensuite into a mini spa.
